100 Years of Oscar Peterson
with The Brian Barlow Big Band & Friends

Sunday, August 3 at 2 pm

at The Barn

Duke Ellington called him the "Maharaja of the keyboard" but to his friends, he was simply "O.P."

The summer season ends with a special 100th birthday celebration for a true Canadian icon. Oscar Peterson was considered one of the greatest jazz pianists of all time and a prolific composer who greatly influenced the Canadian and international jazz scene.

In celebration, Brian Barlow and his amazing Big Band present a spectacular concert featuring Oscar’s famous “Canadiana Suite”, a musical journey across his beloved Canada (including a visit to the Calgary Stampede!), as well as the music of other great Canadian jazz artists influenced by Oscar including Moe Koffman, Rob McConnell and Phil Nimmons. Expect a mix of dazzling arrangements for big band including his 'Hymn To Freedom' along with a few intimate trio numbers in keeping with the format that Oscar used most of his long and distinguished career.  Don’t miss this top-flight, all-Canadian tribute to one of this country's – and the world's – greatest jazz artists.
