Fun Facts & A Special Concert Preview!
First Chair: Brian Manker has been the Principal Cellist with Symphony Orchestre de Montreal (OSM) since 1999!
Performer & Educator: Brian Manker is a frequent concerto soloist with the OSM and a member of New Orford String Quartet. Brian is also a faculty member at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music.
Favourite Composers: Brahms, Beethoven, Bach, and Debussy.
Prized Possession: Brian Manker plays on cello made by Pietro Guarneri of Venice ca. 1728–1730 and a bow made by Joseph René Lafleur ca. 1850, graciously loaned by the Canimex Foundation.
Friend of Westben: Brian Manker has joined Westben at The Barn in Campbellford before! In 2007 Brian Manker performed a concert of Mozart & Ravel with pianist Andre Laplante & Violinist Mayumi Seiler. Brian is pictured here playing in The Westben Meadow at dusk.
The New Orford String Quartet was scheduled to perform in Westben’s 2020 summer season. When this season was put on hold due to Covid-19, Brian excitedly agreed to record a safe, solo, Digital Concert at The Barn. ‘Cello at The Barn’ will premiere on October 17th at 7:00 pm on The Westben Digital Venue & on YouTube.
