Celebrating 25 Years: Natural Balance with Dave Mowat

The world, in being made perfect, for instance when one reads the Anishinabe creation story, no doubt finds itself under immense human pressure in the present.  Human intervention and impact, industrialization and the vastness of consumption has wreaked havoc in our world and we are reaping that sad reward.  But then of course we have those efforts that have either restored the natural balance where it had fallen off course or we have those landscapes that have been lucky enough to escape human intervention and impact in the first place and for the most part.  Take for instance the Alderville Black Oak Savanna and Tallgrass Prairie where a generation ago a select number of us took the initiative to make certain that this area would not be undermined and destroyed.  That it’s significance would be held up where it deserved to continue to flourish; for all the creatures that rely on it; for biodiversity’s sake; and even for the sake of our own human existence in our small communities.  It’s at Westben too that I get to stay close to that sense and understanding of environmental stewardship.  It’s here at Westben that all of us can share in that beautiful and remarkable experience of hearing nature’s call and response, like a song or a set of musical interpretations.  Never take it for granted what creation has bestowed upon us and our Mother Earth, for in its perfection are the lessons to live by where the circle remains intact and natural balance can be awakened and achieved.
